Steering Wheel Setup
Here is a step by step guide to setting up a steering wheel for use in game. Please note that GTA was not natively designed to be used with a wheel, so user experiences will vary.
Big thanks to Kuntos for this great guide!
Download and install x360ce (Xbox 360 controller emulator) from here
Make sure G HUB is installed, your wheel is connected and your wheel's firmware is up to date. More info here
Open x360ce and make a controller profile for your wheel by pressing add in the top right. Your wheel should show up here as a controller. If not, you may need to restart PC after downloading the applications or make sure your wheel is connected properly.
Manually map buttons as desired e.g. right trigger = foot pedal for accelerating, left trigger = brake pedal (I use left manual pedal on my wheel, the brake deadzone can probably be messed around with but it's hard to get 100% braking power from the pedal), lsb and rsb on right analog stick to look left and right, right bumper = right manual shifter on wheel for handbraking. Picture for reference:
To map steering, simply click on one of the arrows on the left analog stick and turn the wheel fully in that direction. You should now see the controller analog stick turning when you turn your wheel. Play around with it to make sure it's working properly.
Important settings: Left thumb - This controls your steering sensitivity and how the X axis on the 360 controller works. Without these changes it will not work nicely if at all. Picture for reference just copy these and adjust sensitivity on X axis slightly to your liking:
Force Feedback settings: This is optional and only works as an emulated FFB. It doesn't feel true, but it's a nice addition. You can copy these settings and adjust as needed or leave completely off. You can also mess with your center spring strength in G HUB if you prefer that, but it doesn't seem to interact nicely with x360ce. If using center spring, make sure to disable force feedback in x360ce.
G HUB Settings: This is an odd one but it's the icing on the cake for me. You can now mess around with your operating range/angle. Mine is set to 600. This makes it so I can turn 110 degrees to lock the wheel in game and it's much more responsive when driving. You can have this range smaller for more sensitivity or larger. Different vehicles may benefit from different operating ranges. This one is worth a play around to your preference.
You can mess around with settings in x360ce and G HUB whilst on the server and changes will apply instantly without having to close FiveM which makes it a lot easier to test.
Additional Comments: I highly recommend using first person when driving and testing your settings, i’ve tried 3rd person and it doesn't feel nearly as good.
